Classic PC Games

Take a step back in time and revisit your favorite DOS and Windows games. The files available in this collection consist primarily of PC demos, freeware, and shareware. These files are the original releases which will require intermediate to advanced knowledge to install and run on modern operating systems. If you would rather simply try some classic MS-DOS games inside your browser you may wish to try the online MS-DOS Software Library. New games are added to this collection on a weekly basis.

Specific news regarding major updates can be found on our website Demu.

If you are the copyright holder of a classic computer game and would like the full version of your work to appear in the archive please e-mail me at swizzle@demu.org. I'm also more than happy to answer questions and fill requests.

Compatibility Information
The majority of these games will not run correctly on modern operating systems. For DOS titles you will need to use DOSBox. You can find an easy to follow DOSBox tutorial here.

Most Windows titles will need to be run through Windows Virtual PC under the appropriate version of Windows for full functionality. Some titles may *mostly* work by simply configuring them to use a compatibility mode.

If you are running Linux, BSD, Solaris or Mac OS X, Wine will run most of the older Windows based software (and DOSBox).

Again jayenkai took two different (but well known) game concepts, mixed them together and created something new and fresh from it. This time he took Pacman (or Blockman as he calls him), put him in the obligatory maze, removed the ghosts and the timer and added a puzzle element. Now it is your task to make your way through the maze and eat a certain amount of pellets while doing so. If you succeed, every extra pellet you eat means a bonus point, if you fail and get to a field where is no pellet...

As always Jayenkai delivers in the section for oldschool goodness, and throws you a classic (-ish) game with a twist on gameplay. Jayenkais description: Destroy the baddies as you would a regular shooter, but should the enemy be stationary when hit, it drops a little pod which'll kill you. This gives it a nice controllable difficulty level, whereby if you don't shoot like a crazy person, then you won't be bombarded by falling pods.. ... whereas if you go mental, the game will similarly be much...

Tetris spiced with a little bit of Arkanoid in which your standard task of building lines of blocks is constantly ruined by a destructive "ball" (in fact a square block) running all over the playing field. There are three game modes and nine difficulty levels affecting speed of falling blocks. You can also choose to play with up to six balls or without them, making Tetripong a standard Tetris game.

"Everybody loved Blockman's adventure in a Pacman maze, so it seemed inevitable that there'd be a sequel." - Jayenkai. Your Mission: To eat at least a given number of dots before ending up with nowhere to go. When succeeded you move on to the next level of pillpopping. If you do not succeed, then you die. Harsh...but such is life. Blockman gets More is of course somewhat of a pacman-clone but with Jayenkais usual twist this holds its own. Go enjoy.

A really addicting simple game. At first it wouldn't seem very special. For controls you use the right arrow key. "ahh, the arrow keys you say, and what else?". No.. actually just the right arrow key.. and the z key to shoot. As soon as you start playing, you quickly get addicted. The sounds that increase in pitch as you pile up combos, the repetetive boing sound every time you bounce. The game brings back the feeling you had with the early arcade games where you had to try again...

"Greenie: The Helecopter Hero" is a "H.E.R.O." remake that was made by Jayenkai for the Retro Remake compo 2006, but finally never entered. You play a guy with a helicopter on his back and it is your task to rescue entombed children from an old mine. The game contains all levels of the original game by Activision as well as new levelpacks and an editor to create your own levels. Might not cope with other "H.E.R.O." clones when it comes to sound and graphics, but it...

Gravity bombs is about shooting spheres with your guns. You have a gun in each corner of the screen, each in its own color. These colors also cover the spheres randomly generated in the playing arena in the middle and you now have to shoot the green colored spheres with the green canon etc. This might sound easy, but you have to take into consideration that the spheres have their own gravitational fields, and as such try to pull your shot towards them. The games satisfaction comes when you hit...

Box find himself in a large open area. Collecting gems will keep his power and health topped up, digging and shooting will use up the power, and getting hit by baddies will sap his health. Try to find all 16 badges. 12 of them will enhance Box's powers, the other 4 once collected will reveal the level's exit. Box's adventure has a nice little feature that tweaks the game depending on what weekday it is. So on Sundays you play in the dark for example and other days spaces are more cramped etc.

NeonPlat 2 is a platform game featuring PlatDude, character known from other jayenkai's games. The goal of the game is to survive and score as many points as possible. Points are given for killing baddies, but also for "painting" white platforms and activating platform waves. Platform sets come in waves, however to activate next set PlatDude needs to paint all white platforms by stepping on them. The longer it takes to activate it the more enemies appear and the lesser chance of...

We once had a game called "Crimsonland" on CWF. It was your aim to kill all aliens in an arena (which wasn't possible, because new aliens appeared all the time) and stay alive as long as possible. Unfortunately we had to remove the game after a while, because we realized it wasn't freeware anymore. Now this isn't a loss anymore as "Alien Deathmatch" is here to stay! "Run around a bunch of Alien Breed style arena shooting a bunch of aliens. Each arena has it's own online...

H~S is a fixed, mouse-controlled shooter where your goal is to survive as long as possible fighting waves of enemies. At the beginning of first wave you possess - together with your ship - five motionless ships. As long as you have them enemies attack them first, when you lose the last one they start surrounding you. You should also control your gun's temperature - when it becomes too hot you become defenceless for a short while. Path traces can be turned off if you experience slowdowns....

Cardagain is a card memory game. The goal is to memorize the position of cards and also the order in which they are flipped and repeat this sequence. Each couple of tries more cards are added and the old ones switch positions, so the pattern not only becomes more complex, but is never the same throughout each session. Game ends when you lose all lives what equals to making six errors. Cardagain has been released for Windows, Mac, Linux and iPhone.

JNKPlat - Origins Originally written in QBasic at College, JNKPlat is where that little guy in my Avatar (Platdude) comes from. Initially concieved as "What would happen if you took a bog-standard Maze/Sokoban game, and flipped it into a Platformer", it's since upped a wee bit, and become more of an action platformer. But I always make sure the puzzles in there, 'cos it'd be rubbish without it! JNKPlat 07 Ten years later, and I'm still remaking the game, in what appears to be somewhat...

NeonPlat Adventures is a platform game featuring PlatDude, character known from earlier jayenkai's games. NeonPlat Adventures includes Calendar system. When you first run the game you can choose present day or any day from the past (but never one from the future) and you will play a set of four pseudo-randomly generated levels. The set stays fixed for each day, so you can try to beat it later if it happened to be too hard or simply replay it as many times as you wish for better score. Game...

Help Blockman to find all his little Blocklets and guide them safely to the level exit. But beware of the evil ghosts... But who am I to describe this game if the developer can do it much better: This game came about because I'd drawn some Pacman-esque sprites, but didn't really want to make a generic Pacman game. And, let's be honest, there's enough Pacman clones out there. What there isn't, though, is enough Flicky clones. So, after a few days making a decent platforming engine, I decided to...

What happens when you take 2 classic Atari 2600 games, and stick them together? Centipong takes the centipede, and smashes it over the head repeatedly with a ball. Great stuff! The game plays a little like a version of Arkanoid, only a little faster, and.. Well... I always thought Arkanoid got a bit dull and repetitive after a while. So, think of it as a kind of "Arkanoid: Kicked up a notch".. Or Arkanoid for the ADD generation! (Developer's description) Don't let yourself get...
